Creating Inclusive Digital Experiences

We conduct comprehensive accessibility reviews to ensure your website is usable by all individuals, including users with visual, motor, auditory, or cognitive impairments. Our goal is to help businesses create inclusive digital environments while aligning with recognised accessibility standards.

By identifying usability barriers and structural limitations, we improve navigation clarity, content readability, and interaction accessibility across devices and assistive technologies.

Web accessibility is no longer optional for Australian businesses — it is a legal, ethical, and commercial imperative. A website that excludes users with disabilities is not only missing a significant portion of its potential audience, it may also be exposing your organisation to legal risk under Australian anti-discrimination law.

At Devoq Design, our accessibility review service gives you a clear, actionable picture of where your website currently stands against WCAG standards, what needs to change, and how to implement those changes efficiently. We work with businesses across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and all of Australia to build more inclusive, more compliant, and — critically — better-performing digital experiences.

Why Website Accessibility Reviews Matter for Australian Businesses

Web accessibility is the practice of designing and building websites that can be used by everyone — including people with visual, auditory, cognitive, motor, and speech disabilities. Here’s why Australian businesses are increasingly prioritising accessibility reviews:

Accessibility is not a compliance checkbox it’s a quality standard. And Devoq Design helps you meet it properly.

Key Features of Accessibility Reviews

Our accessibility review process evaluates your website against globally recognised standards such as WCAG guidelines. We assess font sizes, typography readability, keyboard navigation, screen-reader compatibility, and structural markup to identify potential compliance gaps.
Beyond compliance, our focus is on real usability. We analyse how users interact with your platform and provide actionable recommendations that improve overall experience, engagement, and accessibility for a broader audience.

Understanding WCAG: The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

WCAG the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines is the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. Published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), WCAG defines the principles and criteria that make web content accessible to people with disabilities. Here’s what you need to know:

WCAG Conformance Levels: A, AA, and AAA

WCAG compliance is measured across three conformance levels. Level A is the minimum covering the most critical barriers that make content completely unusable for some people. Level AA is the standard target for most businesses and the level typically required for legal compliance in Australia. Level AAA is the highest level, covering enhanced accessibility criteria that are not feasible for all content types. Our accessibility reviews assess your website against WCAG 2.1 Level AA the standard that reflects current Australian legal and industry expectations.

The Four WCAG Principles (POUR)

All WCAG guidelines are organised under four core principles. Perceivable information and UI components must be presentable in ways users can perceive (e.g. alt text for images, captions for video). Operable all UI components and navigation must be operable by all users (e.g. full keyboard accessibility, no seizure-inducing content). Understandable information and UI operation must be understandable (e.g. clear error messages, consistent navigation). Robust content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of assistive technologies. Our review assesses compliance across all four principles at the WCAG 2.1 AA level.

WCAG 2.1 vs WCAG 2.2

WCAG 2.2 was published in October 2023, introducing nine new success criteria primarily focused on cognitive accessibility and mobile usability. While WCAG 2.1 AA remains the most widely referenced standard in Australian legal and procurement contexts, we assess against WCAG 2.2 criteria where relevant and advise on future-proofing your accessibility posture for upcoming regulatory updates.

Our Accessibility Review Services

We offer a range of accessibility review services for Australian businesses from rapid automated audits through to comprehensive manual testing and ongoing compliance monitoring.

WCAG Compliance Audit

Our full WCAG compliance audit provides a comprehensive, expert assessment of your website against WCAG 2.1 AA (and 2.2 where relevant) success criteria. We combine automated testing tools with expert manual review because automated tools alone can only detect approximately 30–40% of accessibility issues. Our audit covers every success criterion relevant to your website type and delivers a detailed report with issue descriptions, severity ratings, affected pages, and specific remediation guidance.

Rapid Accessibility Assessment

For businesses that need a fast, high-level view of their accessibility status without the depth of a full audit our rapid assessment provides a prioritised overview of the most significant accessibility issues on your website. This is ideal for businesses beginning their accessibility journey and wanting to understand their current position before committing to a full remediation programme.

Accessibility Remediation Support

An audit is only valuable if the issues are actually fixed. We offer hands-on remediation support working alongside your development team (or directly in your codebase) to implement the accessibility improvements identified in the audit. We prioritise issues by severity and user impact, ensuring the most critical barriers are resolved first.

Ongoing Accessibility Monitoring

Accessibility is not a one-time fix websites change, content is added, and new features are built. Our ongoing accessibility monitoring service provides regular reviews monthly or quarterly to catch new accessibility issues introduced by content updates, design changes, or feature releases before they accumulate into a significant compliance problem.

Accessibility Statement Preparation

An accessibility statement is a public declaration of your website’s current accessibility status, the standards you’re working toward, and how users can request accessibility support or report issues. We help businesses prepare clear, accurate accessibility statements that meet Australian and international expectations for transparency and accountability.

New Build Accessibility Integration

The most cost-effective way to achieve accessibility compliance is to build it in from the start not to retrofit it after launch. We integrate accessibility review at key stages of new website and digital product builds reviewing wireframes, design mockups, and development builds to catch and address accessibility issues before they reach production.

Who Needs an Accessibility Review?

Web accessibility is a responsibility for every organisation with a public-facing digital presence. However, certain types of organisations face a higher level of scrutiny and legal obligation:

Let’s Address Your Questions Today!

WCAG the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines is the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG defines the technical criteria that make web content accessible to people with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor disabilities. Compliance is measured at three levels: A (minimum), AA (standard target for most businesses), and AAA (enhanced). In Australia, WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the most widely referenced compliance target for both legal and procurement purposes. Our accessibility reviews assess your website against WCAG 2.1 AA and flag relevant WCAG 2.2 criteria.
Accessibility improves user experience, expands your audience reach, and reduces legal risk related to digital compliance. In Australia, the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) creates legal obligations for businesses to provide accessible digital services to people with disabilities. Beyond compliance, an accessible website reaches an estimated 4.4 million Australians living with disability and accessibility improvements typically improve SEO performance, overall usability, and brand perception as well.
Yes. Unlike pure accessibility consultancies that deliver audit reports and leave implementation to you, Devoq Design has in-house design and development capability to implement accessibility fixes directly. We offer full remediation support working with your existing development team or taking on the implementation ourselves prioritising issues by severity and user impact to ensure the most critical barriers are resolved first and within your budget.
In Australia, web accessibility is not mandated by a specific web accessibility law but it is legally required under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA). The Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has indicated that inaccessible websites can constitute unlawful discrimination. Government agencies are subject to specific accessibility requirements. For businesses that provide services to the public, fail to meet accessibility standards, and receive a formal complaint, the legal, financial, and reputational consequences can be significant. The most cost-effective approach is proactive compliance — which is exactly what our accessibility review service supports.
Automated accessibility scanning tools such as WAVE, Axe, or Lighthouse are valuable for quickly identifying certain types of accessibility issues, but they can only detect approximately 30–40% of WCAG failures. Many of the most significant accessibility barriers require human judgement to identify including poor colour contrast in certain contexts, meaningless or confusing alt text, illogical heading hierarchies, keyboard traps, and content that is technically present but practically unusable for screen reader users. Our reviews combine automated scanning with expert manual testing including real screen reader evaluation to identify the full range of issues affecting your users.
Our accessibility audit reports include: an executive summary of your overall compliance status and key risk areas; a detailed issue log with each WCAG success criterion violation, the specific pages or components affected, the severity of the issue, the user impact, and step-by-step remediation guidance for your development team; a prioritised remediation roadmap organised by severity and implementation effort; and an overall WCAG 2.1 AA compliance score. Reports are written to be useful for both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Timeline depends on the size and complexity of your website. A focused accessibility review of a standard business website (10–30 pages) typically takes 1–2 weeks. A comprehensive audit of a large or complex platform with complex interactive elements, a large number of page templates, or document libraries may take 3–4 weeks. We provide a clear timeline and scope estimate at the start of every engagement.
Not necessarily all at once but all identified issues should be addressed over time. We prioritise accessibility issues by severity: Level A failures (the most critical barriers) should be resolved as a priority. Level AA failures should be addressed to achieve the standard compliance target. We work with you to create a realistic remediation roadmap that fits your development capacity and timeline ensuring the most impactful changes are made first.
In most cases, accessibility improvements are invisible to users who don't need them they improve the underlying code structure, colour contrast ratios, focus states, and semantic markup without requiring significant visual design changes. In some cases, changes such as improving colour contrast or adding visible focus indicators may require minor visual adjustments but we work with your design team to implement these in a way that maintains your brand integrity.
Yes. We provide accessibility review services to businesses and organisations across all of Australia Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, and regional areas working entirely remotely. Our review process is fully remote-capable, as we access your live website or staging environment directly. Location has no impact on the depth or quality of our accessibility assessment.
